Of course, the slave code affected James and Lily's relationship since it was against a noble having any affairs with a slave, hence, they have to keep their feelings from society's eyes.

The slave code and the society greatly affect the relationship of James and Lily. Their circumstances make them doubt if love is enough to sustain a future together. Hence, there is the hesitation to be open to each other which puts a strain to their relationship.

Yes, their relationship was greatly affected by their society and the slave codes. They did try to go against the society and were successful but they cared about the society's opinion very much.

James and Lily are affected by the codes of the times and their positions in society does not allow them to be together. They have to hide their feelings to live in their times. They do care about society or else they cannot survive there.

The reality of the society and the slave code did affect their relationship. No matter how strong or deep a love it, it will be affected by society and upbringing, just as we witness with James and Lily's story

Their relationship was affected by the slave code. Every time James and Lily would get closer to each other, there would be a barrier because of it that would shut down their love affair. However, James loved Lily too much to let her suffer the consequences of breaking the rules.

The society and the slave code had a lot on their relationship. If it was not so, there would not be any need to keep hiding their love for each other.

The upbringing of James and the way society treated the slave made it difficult for James to be open about his feelings for Lily.
It is just sad how codes were so prevalent in history.

I think the relationship between James and Lily was affected by the slave code and the society around them. So James hid his father. And James' attitude at the end of the story is surprising.

The slave code and society around James and Lily had a significant impact on their relationship. James wanted to be honest with Lily about his emotions for her, but the Code prevented them from doing so. They had to keep their connection a secret for a while. Which I believe was difficult for both of them, but we can't entirely dismiss James as a bad guy.

The slave codes definitely affected the main character's relationship. Both James and Lily had to hide their true feelings from each other for the first half of the book because their relationship was forbidden. And even after they were together, they still have to keep their relationship secret from James' family. Overall, the times had a major impact on James and his relationship with Lily.

The society's expectation normally outlaws one's view in this case the class hierarchy in this society for James and Lily affected their relationship because Jame's reputation would also be affected negatively. In addition Lily as a slave could also affect the " little" freedom accorded to others. Hence, it had to be a secret that still affected Jame's ego as a man.

The society definitely had an effect. They hid their love from each other due to it. I do however think that love conquers all, and that they decided to have a relationship wether it was frowned upon or not because they were so in love.

I believe that Lilly and James' relationship was affected, which is not surprising to me anyway, it's the Master and slave era. It doesn't really matter how strong the affection is, the love will never be free. Sneaking and hiding will always be involved, unless they decide to go against the society and it codes.

I think that their relationship was highly effected by the slave code and society. If it wasn’t then there would be no reason for them to have to keep their relationship so secretive.
