I would easily rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. James was a very patient man indeed. Pretending not to care about someone you love for a long time to create an impression on your father isn't easy at all.

Although I found the slavery topic quite distasteful and sometimes upset me, I still felt like that book's romance was a nice built-up and everything about the book was very well written. The author knows how to capture her audience.

A romantic affair between a slave and her master is one you would hardly expect to develop in such an era. I loved the depth of the characters and the steaming chemistry between them. A perfect 4 out of 4 rating for me.

Because of the chemistry between Lily and James, I enjoyed reading this book. However, I'm still curious to find out if James will stand up for Lily and enable her to fight for her freedom in the period when the book is set.

The book was entertaining to read. The cliffhanger made the plot more mysterious and compelled me to read on. I wasn't too impressed with various aspects of the novel, most notably the language. Loved Lily's fervor and full-of-life attitude; she was a character I'd like to see in most romance novels. The characters were well-written. Sincerely, I have no opinions about James' character; I thought it was fine.

The author was very meticulous in the character development of this book and the introduction of suspense, love, and romance kept me Immersed while reading. The chemistry between James and Lily made the book enticing to me as I could hardly stop reading it till the end. For me, it's a four out of four stars rating

The majority of this book was fantastic. However, I thought Lily and James' romance was forced. James' personality and choices for Lily's future didn't sit well with me. But Lily's tale is moving and skillfully written.

The book brings to light the harsh realities of slave trade and white supremacy. I like Lily's strength, after enduring so much she took it in her stride taking life as it comes. I also liked William's character. Being a white male he didn't believe in enslaving fellow humans based on their race. I didn't like the way James took control of Lily's deciding what is best for her without consulting her but that was the way things were back then. It is an historical romance novel. I would definitely recommend this book to others.
