Honestly I tend to love a well-written family relationship even better then I enjoy a well-written romantic relationship. Their father/daughter relationship was definitely a beautiful relationship to read about.

William is a great character. He had opened doors for Lily that she would have never dreamed of ever accomplishing. It was warming to see that she got to experience a male parent figure despite the brutal memories of her biological father.

Williams was a great father, and his contributions to honing Lily's natural talents is what intrigued me the most. I was very much in love with such father-daughter relationship.

William embodies all a father should be. In the book, he was credited with helping Lily develop her inherent gift. It helped to make the grim topic of slavery more bearable. He treated her as if he were her biological father, and he didn't give a damn what other people thought of him.

I completely agree that William and Lily's relationship is one of a kind. They each helped each other in a tremendously positive way. I especially like how honest and open they were to each other about their pasts and how they see a future together in which they both prosper.

I also love William. He is too kind. I think his affection for Lily comes from cherishing her talent.

I like the relationship between Williams and Lily. He was wealthy and at the same time kind. His contribution in making the latter's dream come to pass was astonishing.

I love the way William encourages Lily to use her talents and protects her from negativity. I especially love when they would spend the evening together after practicing, just the two of them as father and daughter.

I love the relationship between them too! It was heartwarming to watch them connect and share their pain. William was very good at defending her and making sure James was aware of how his words and actions affected her. He did look after her like she was his daughter.

I love how William treated Lily as a daughter instead of a slave. Furthermore, he makes sure that everyone knows about it, it shows how benevolence William was.

I believe when the authors create the characters of the parents in such a way that they are adored, much as I admired William's character, the book becomes tolerable itself. It was actually wonderful to see William be so welcoming and encouraging.

William being a very wealthy man could have easily taken up other ventures but to assume the role of a father to Lily was to me the ultimate and best decision he could have made. I absolutely loved the father-daughter bond between William and Lily.

I agree! I absolutely loved their relationship; it was beautiful. In my opinion, their relationship was even more interesting given Lily's first impression of William. Watching them build trust over time and seeing how Lily's opinion of William improved over the course of the story made their story really compelling.
