Reading the slave codes makes me sick. Can't believe how the Negroes were mistreated and the codes helped justify the masters' actions.

I wonder who came up with these merciless slave codes. Why were these people so ruthless? But these codes help me understand the story better.

I agree! I believe the slave codes were essential to the book. I don't think I would have understood a lot of the story without them. Great question!

The slave codes were essential to help readers better understand the time that the story took place, as well as to help them better comprehend how people used to think and why they thought it was okay to treat others differently. I believe they were an essential part of the book and story.

Yeah, it was important to add the slave code. It came with vast knowledge and understanding the author's point of view.
