I think it is Elijah. He might have been shot while protecting Lily.

I doubt that Lily was shot. The author is hoping to create suspense through the slave code since we know Lily is a slave.

I think it was either Elijah, or the father. I am truly hoping it was not James or Lily. I will definitely be reading the second book to find out though.

I think James could have killed his father. There is a part where the author said that even bought a gun, just to protect Lily.

The bullet might be for Lily but I doubt it killed her. After all, we have Book 2 😊. So I think someone took a bullet for her.

I think it was a slave I doubt to be Lily, she's the smart one to be killed for not obeying her master, it might be William.

I don't think it was Lilly either. That shot was intentional and directed. It was Lilly, it would have been shot awkwardly.

The code is simple. The master can use a weapon against a slave if they disobey them. In my opinion, the slave who was shot was Lily for disobeying her master.

My rose-colored glasses say it was Jesse and perhaps shot by James. I don't want to believe that James was lying all along. If it was Lily, she would have to survive since there are two more books in the series. I think the code was just to make us wonder.

It is obviously a slave who disobeys the master, but I doubt it wasn't Lily or William. The slave master exercised the code that says a slave can be gunned down for disobedience.

To be sure, it had to be a slave who defied the masters. If slaves defied their owners, the masters were supposed to use the gun.

It was mentioned that Lily survived so I guess even if she was shot she was able to scale through with it.

I think it was ambiguous , but could either be Lily or William. If it was Lily, I’m sure that would be explored in a sequel.

I think it is highly unlikely it was Lily, but either way, the person is likely one of the people instrumental in Lily's life. That's how I feel. Maybe the sequel will bring light to that for sure.

It's most likely Lily, but I'm not certain. All I know is that because of the code, there's a good chance it'll be a slave.
