I have not read the prequels but although the book is standalone, there is always a connection between series books and it will give a greater understanding of some of the characters.

I haven't yet, but I would love to. When it comes to series, I prefer getting the whole story from the very beginning. Reading the first two books would have improved my reading experience and given me a better perspective and understanding.

No I have not but I plan to. I read this one with my partner though and we both loved it. We both plan to read the entire series. It was worth our time. Good job.

Not yet. But planning to read the other two in the future. I think its better to read all 3 books to understand the context better.

The book can serve as a standalone novel because I read the 3rd part first and still understood it. However, I feel it would be more easier to understand and the storyline would flow easier if someone read the prequels first.

I haven't read any of the prequels. This book could be enjoyed as stand-alone, but I suggest people to read the prequels too in order to understand the stories and characters in-depth

No, Totem is my first read. However, it turned out so great that I will read the prequels. I want to get the full picture on the story, i also know I will understand it better then.

I haven't read the prequels but I will even though they are standalone and one can get the story of each book individually.

I haven't read the first two books, but I plan to. Also, I don't see the problem if this book can stand alone, although I usually prefer to read in order my books.

Like others above have said; I have not read books 1 and 2, but that did not take anything away from my enjoyment nor understanding of this story. Now I’m sure had I already read the other two, yes, my level of appreciation for book #3 would probably have been even better.

For a more comprehensive understanding of the book, i'd advise readers to read the prequel. However, the book can also be a good standalone book.

I have not. I just found this book recently, I find it very interesting, and it is really nice watching the plot unfold. When I do finish reading this one, I have it in mind to read the other one. That is if this one does not end up being disappointing.

You can certainly read this book as a standalone. But I wouldn't recommend it. The three books in the series work seamlessly together. For example, if you weren't familiar with William's adventure in Adrift, you couldn't understand the effort he makes to go on the journey to Bear Valley. Similarly, all of the characters are brilliantly crafted in the first two novels, as is the mystery surrounding Buckhorn Industries, so it would make more sense to read the first two. Lastly, the mysticism of the first peoples of the region, particularly with Sarah's past-life experience in the first novel, is critical to understanding the stories presented by other characters in their past-life experiences in Totem. These books, as a whole, present a single, wonderful story. I've recommended these books to numerous people at this time and to each one of them, I've suggested they start at the beginning.
