I have read one of the two prequels of the book, i.e., 'Strong Heart.' So, reading the third book in the series made all the difference. I found the character development of the protagonist, Sarah, fascinating to follow after reading the prequel of this book. She was at first arrogant and uninteresting but gradually, I came to admire her steadfastness. Also, reading the prequel enabled me to read about the bear and other various wild animals in the book with perspective. This struck my own fancy of things, places and people. Thirdly, I was able to connect with each and ever character of the book, major and minor, and could come up with an opinion about them as a result of reading the prequel to 'Totem.' I could have a useful and in-depth glimpse into the archaeological world.

I haven't got a chance to read the prequels and I think that it would be a good idea to do so so as to have a complete understanding of the plot. The book can work as a standalone but for one to get a complete picture they need to read the prequels.

I haven't read the prequels. I will do that definitely because the book is worth it.

Yes, I have read the prequel of this book. I guess it's okay as a standalone because I read the part three before reading the rest of the series and I understood the story to an extent, but I think it's better to read all for further information

I haven’t read the prequels, although I must say I could navigate this story quite well without having done so. Nevertheless, I always had that nagging feeling that I had missed out on some important point integral to the plot. Also, the familiarity with the characters from the previous books is missing. In general, I would always prefer to have read the prequels in order to get the full benefit of the story.

I believe that if an author writes a series of books, then the reader should start with book one. Otherwise, it may be like watching a movie and starting right in the middle of it. Reading book one and book two in the series would definitely give the reader the opportunity to get to know each character, their histories, and the details to provide a full understanding of book three without any questions or holes in the past.

I have read the prequels, they are named Strong heart and Adrift. The three of them can function as standalone novels. However, reading the prequels will increase the reader's appreciation of the story that is told in Totem.

There are two books that serve as prequels to Totem. I have only read one of those books. The name of the prequel I read is Adrift. I hope to read the other prequel very soon. I think Totem qualifies to be a standalone novel. There is no need to read the prequels

I have not read the prequels of the book and i believe that is why I had to so many questions and disconnections I could not fill. I feel that before commenting on this book, I need to read the prequels and have a good understanding of the start to know why it ends as it does.

The book is a great standalone novel, however reading the prequels might provide some background for some events here. I look forward to reading them.

I haven't read the prequels to the book but I was able to follow along and understand the 3rd book well enough. At first it was a bit of adjustment to follow along especially as there are many characters and references to the previous books in the beginning. However, once your well into half of the book, it doesn't matter as much since this book's storyline is engaging and thrilling to read.

I am reading Totem now because I loved the two books before. Years ago, I read Strong Heart; the story stuck with me, but I forgot the name. While looking for a book to review, I came across Adrift. When I realized this was the second part of the fantastic book I read years ago, I was so excited. Previously, I reviewed Adrift, and now I am reading Totem.
