Racism as we know it exists since the birth of mankind . This issue has been well addressed in this book , feeling superior just because of a skin colour that you are born with and a quality that is not even in your hand to achieve is just obsurd . I loved the moments shared between the soldiers during the Vietnam war.

The theme that I liked the most was that of friendship and solidarity. The hardest topic was definitely injustice. So the people had to fight a war that was not theirs.

A common theme I noticed was how a nation riddled with racism and discrimination would come together to fight a common war. How ironic!

I take racism to be a very sensitive topic, the author has tried to bring this theme very clearly even in the line of fire. It triggers a lot of question to be discussed. Will racism ever end?

Companionship and friendship. Soldier from different side fought a war they were left with nothing. But the good moments they shared even in the midst of brutal war would never be forgotten.

The themes beyond racism that I found most prevalent would probably be empathy and camaraderie. It takes a lot to understand the loneliness someone is going through due to the challenges faced, and reaching out a hand and trying to accept people no matter what is also a very important theme in this book.

It's true that racism is one of the themes that are portrayed in this provocative book. Moreover, social inequality, friendship, and war are the other themes that are evident in the story. For instance, the black soldiers are not equally treated by Vietnamese soldiers. This clearly brings out the theme of inequality, based on racism.

I found it touching how they related to each other, in my opinion, as a result of a shared suffering of sorts. It was heart-warming to see people on different sides exhibit propinquity in spite of the ongoing conflict.

Asides racism being the most obvious theme. This book did include themes of friendship, companionship and Unity. It showed how similar interests could bind dissimilar people. There was also the theme of acceptance. We see this between the Vietnamese and black soldiers.

Racism is eminent in a society when some people think they're better to others, despite the fact that we are all humans. However, in most cases, personal superiority is something that has been implanted in people since time of memeorial. If we all earn to accept and believe that we are equal, there will be no wars or racism in our societies.

Racism has been the most prominent feature of this endeavor. However, I'd also like to point out how freedom and equality are being enforced in several other means. All of which are explored in the book's social topics.

Racial bigotry, undoubtedly stands out, and what is shocking is that this is one of the places where one does not expect to find it. It has often been said that tough times have a way of making us see beyond our differences, but it seems it is not the case everywhere. I was surprised to find another book on the Vietnam War disclosing the same theme.
