I would conclude that racism is the main theme continuously portrayed throughout the book. Billy Springer describes the effects of racism during the Vietnamese war on black soldiers.

Aside from racism, this book had other themes like friendship, the theme of love, theme of companionship. There were so many things to learn from this book.

I believe that this book portrays how impossible it is to be truly alone, that when we start opening our hearts and seeing beyond our noses, we can find someone who will do their best to accept and understand us. I think is a very eye-opening scene that the Vietnamese people question black soldiers about their motivations, the fact that they are helping the white soldiers do to them what they have been doing to their people (black communities) for so long.

I think this book can also teach us about solidarity and empathy.
I agree with you on this. This book made me realize the power of empathy as it related to human relationships. Indeed we cannot really be alone.

The main theme of the book is racism which is heart-wrenching. Due to this, there was also inequality but mostly I loved how there was solidarity and friendship which was a breath of fresh air from the pain of reading how our world is truly based.

There is the glaring theme of racism, but also, there is acceptance and friendship.

For me, the theme of racial discrimination was prevalent in the book. That is the theme I took notice of mostly.

Very well said, acceptance also in the light that no matter who you are or despite your skin color you are not alone.

The theme of racism is featured throughout the book. Apart from racism, other themes we see in the book are those of unity and companionship. These themes are shown by the Vietnamese acceptance of the author although they don't belong to the same race.

Apart from the racism, I think there is the message that there is always someone who will accept us just as we are. I think that the friendship is also an important factor in the book.

It is the inequality and isolation. I liked how the author portrayed it and the meaning and message it sends.

Truly, racism stood out in the book's entirety. I am glad that the theme of friendship also stuck in the thick of a major calamity.

Aside from racism which is the main highlight of this boo; I also associated the story with how communication takes a vital role in such kind of occurrence. This has resulted in bolstering their connection to the country and I really find it alluring. All of which are subthemes I was able to attribute with this masterpiece.

I would say Social Disparity. The sad division between two different cultures, making one culture seem superior to the other. Wr should all embrace equality.

At the very beginning of the book, the author have outlined already about the concept of race issues which made me affirm that this book’s centrality is about racisim in, which I agree with you. However, aside from that, we can also see silver linings in terms of comradeship and connection. These were one of those that I observed at the very least.

The racism in this book is something that touches me considering that I'm someone of colour. However, this was common during the war
