For a person like me who has a passion for learning languages will certainly consider it a big advantage as when people hear someone speaking their language, it makes them polite to that person and they love that a foreigner is learning their language. But as for war, I don't know exactly but it makes it to easier communicate with locals. As for the second question, if a soldier has a strong cause it is not going to have much effect but sometimes it can happen as, to learn a language we have to have strong emotion either of love or hatred. It depends upon the learner. But apart from that love make it easy

Learning the language of the local population is a sign of respect in my opinion. I don't think empathy and being able to understand your enemies make you a weak soldier, on the contrary: it is important to get to know why you're fighting and who you're fighting against firsthand, even because all you have been told could be propaganda. On the other hand, (I hope) that a soldier is fighting to help others, so it is important to understand those you protect; they could have important information, for instance, but also developing an attachment to the locals will give you strength and motivation.

Well, it depends. He might have learned it to know about them, being his sole enemy, or he learned it to because the humanity made him to.

Learning the language of the place you are in is always a good thing. I believe it is for good relations. And caring doesn't make a soldier weak.

I think it provides a good relation environment, because there will be understanding among them. There, they can learn their cultures and view things from the perspective of the people.

I think learning the language where you live creates respect for you among the locals despite your job. With a soldier it creates brotherhood and friendships for him in a foreign land.

By not learning a language, a soldier or practically anyone would place themselves in danger. I am all with learning the language of a country you are visiting. It can also provide an advantage if those around you are not aware of your skills in their said language.

I don't think it will weaken the soldier's ability to do his job well. It might even help get out of sticky situations that may arise

I agree learning the language shows that you are committed to helping the people and that you actually care. It has many advantages to it like you can understand what the people say when they speak and you can communicate effectively.

The importance of language and clear communication cannot be over emphasized. Whether it be for or against the people in question, it's important for one to integrate himself into a culture or system and to ensure his safety amongst the said people

I spent 6 months in china before the pandemic hit teaching English to children and I feel that it would be worth it learning a new language (even though I have no talent for learning a language). For a someone who is coming to a country to fight it I am on the fence on one hand it would be good to know everything about the enemy from the language to the culture, while on the other hand what happens if you get attach to the country?

I think it is good to learn the languages of wherever place you are going. I personally do not stand for war in any case, but I am still going to mention that knowing the language of your enemy can be an advantage. Even better if your aim is to befriend the enemy, the best way to start is by learning the basics of their language.

Language helps communicate issues and problems. If he didn’t know the language then he wouldn’t be able help them in any way. Knowing who you are fighting for gives a real reason to the fight. If one is fighting because they were told to then that solid motivation of why is no longer there.
