Apart from racism, I found themes of endurance, sense of loyalty, dedication, and love. The book all had this and it was truly a delight to read.

Racism stood out for me, and I'm ashamed of myself for not looking beyond that as racism seemed very close to my heart. How that theme was executed made got me glued to the book in more ways than one.

Racism is a predominant theme, but there were also themes of loyalty, friendship, and limited choices.

The author portrayed many other themes in the book such as friendship, war and acceptance. But racism was the major theme in most parts of the book.

Racism seems to be so pronounced. Racism is a very serious issue. It has may faces. It kills, it is psychological. The cover page of the book is interpreting this very theme. I think books that exposes this menace should be encouraged. But importantly, how to eradicate it is even more to the point.

Unity and companionship. I believe going through something with someone beside you makes life simpler than it would have been being an island. War exists due to one party or both need of showing dominance.

A core theme of racism, also connection and understanding across cultures.

We are never alone, regardless of our looks or any other physical factor. Despite bringing in a war they did not want for a country they didn't love, the soldiers shared solidarity and companionship.

The other theme I found there is bond and relationship, as well as, acceptance. Trying to get close to people you are sent to war against definitely shows companionship. And also, the author spoke widely about racism which can help us curb it today.

Two major themes I took note of were inequality and friendship. It is quite sad that we live in a world where racism exists. And as we all know, racism leads to social inequality because one group thinks they deserve and are better than the other. On the issue of friendship, it warmed my heart that the Vietnamese soldiers saw the black soldiers as friends.

Apart from racism, two other themes I took note of are; friendship and unity. The vietnamese soldiers found both of these in the black soldiers

Racism, friendship and acceptance are some of the themes found in this book. But looking at friendship and acceptance, having a relationship or becoming friends with someone because you both are victims of racism isn’t a good way to start a relationship because per adventure, one of both parties experiences a positive change in social status, the other party would be back where they started from. And it’ll go on and on. Wow, what a book depicting what is really happening in life. Gracias writer

Other themes portrayed in the book were friendship and companionship. The soldiers stuck together and shared moments in their lives that they will never forget.
