The author also portrays themes of love, family, and slavery. By the way, since betrayal is the dominant theme, I'm not surprised with Eric's death. Every time I read pirate novels, I've always been expecting the worst scenes that can happen to every character in the book

There are so many themes to bring out from this book. I see love, friendship, family ties, greed, evil, action, courage, and moving on.

I think one of the main themes of the book is that you don't have to only rely on yourself. You have to have trust in your friends and family. They will be there to support you when you need them.

The theme of betrayal has to be the main theme, but it is not the only theme. There is the theme of family and also love.

Envy, betrayals and other ills are typical of crimes like pirates. For me, I think the author was just been real by featuring such themes in the book.

I feel the prominent theme in this book was betrayal. However other themes appeared in the book as well, like loyalty, friendship and family.

Faith is definitely a strong theme within the book. Others I noticed were love, self sacrifice and self control/inner peace. What a great book!

Betrayal is a prominent theme in the book, but there are so many different themes in this story! Revenge, loyalty, love, friendship, self-sacrifice, and on and on! That is what makes it so interesting for me.
