I disagree with you. I really enjoy common names in books; and I don't care for a unique name. Even unique ones that are not too hard to pronounce or spell, sometimes make me feel like the author is trying too hard to make the character memorable. I remember characters with unique talents or hobbies, not names. I really enjoy it when a "John" or "Jill" go on a fun adventure. That makes the story feel more real; it could be anyone on that adventure.Megan Wehner 1 wrote: ↑06 Jun 2022, 13:28 I definitely like when authors use unique (not too unique where I can’t pronounce them) names. If the names are all common or sound/spelling is too alike, I get the characters confused in the beginning and can’t keep them straight. I have seen some of my favorite authors use quite unique names that also have to do with the personality or strengths of the characters which definitely helps in the beginning when trying to un-peel the layers of the characters.
