What can you say about the antagonists?

Is anyone else irked by Don Lomoche's incompetency in being a villain? I genuinely enjoyed the rest of the book, but the fighting scenes, especially the last battle, just seemed like an inconvenience and a waste of time to John. Don Lomoche is just a laughingstock to me, to be honest.

"Don Lomoche stands back up the trail and can hardly believe that he has suffered defeat at the hands of this damn abolitionist twice."
Me: Like, dude, you're so incompetent you shouldn't be surprised that you lost-_-

It does seem that lots of the time he doesn’t even try. He’s also an expert at getting others to do his dirty work. It seems especially uncomfortable knowing the consequences he’s going to face.

The antagonists are not core antagonists, I think. There's this air of incompetence and weakness around them because of their drunkness in authority.

I expected so much from this character but he was a weakling that couldn't even stand his ground.

The antagonist seemed weak and incompetent.

I agree with you. In fact, his scenes were more of comedy to me. Probably, that was how the author wanted to present it.

I agree that the antagonist appeared weak and didn't bring on the villain game to the core. Perhaps this was due to the author's style, as his lead characters seemed to be drunk most time.

I wished the villain was more strong than the author made him appear. As much I wanted the revenge to happen but it was too quick and it didn't bring life to the book.

I believe Don's character could have been solidified, although I think the this character perfectly fitted the setting.

I think it honestly fit his character since he used others to fight his battles after the very beginning. He thought of himself as better than everyone else, but it was all in his head. Once push came to shove and he lost, he couldn't believe it either since he never imagined it would happen.

I think the antagonists could have been been much more stronger and powerful than what was portrayed in the book.

The antagonists are weaklings. They don't possess the features of typical villains.

In my opinion, the author did a bad job in the characterization of the antagonist, Don Lomoche. I understand that drunkenness is a feature in pirate stories. However, it is important that the villain in a story is formidable. This creates adequate tension in a story, which will make the plot much more engrossing. Don Lomoche's character was weak and incompetent. This was a significant flaw in the story.

True, Don Lomoche was indeed a laughingstock. His actions were sometimes annoying to me. Even though, I think the author put him as a character that way, I felt, while reading that he should have been made to have more backbone and smarter.

i hate, and hate and hate him, he was so weak, what he knows is throwing around orders. They bring the drama but i still despise him.
