Too Predictable? Or perfect foreshadowing? (Contains spoilers)

I did, to some extent, recognize the clues while reading. However, I also acknowledge that the more we consume, the more apt we become to see patterns. Also, I didn't feel that my early recognition took away from my enjoyment of the story.

It was actually surprising to me. I didn't see it coming at all. People having similar eyes can be a coincidence. It could've even been a trap for people who pick up on things as quick as you do. But I genuinely didn't notice these clues. I was going along with the story which is what I think everyone did. It wasn't predictable at all. Although it might be now for those who've read this before reading the actual book. But they have been warned. The should've stayed away from this discussion the moment they saw it contains spoilers.

The relationship between Joshua and Devonte flew over my head initially but upon second reading became glaring. It's foreshadowing done just right.

I must admit that from my own perspective, some details and hints in the book were predictable and simples to decipher. For instance, Devonte's father is Captain Joshua. The way the author portrayed them both made it quite evident that they shared similar facial characteristics, such as eye color.

I believe that the majority of authors and writers aim to leave their audience and readers with indications and clues about what they intend to accomplish without giving much away. And it wasn't much different this time. I'm not even sure I would have seen these links if you hadn't brought them up.
