Personally, scripture is a authority for me, so I agree with using scripture as a way to help point people in the right direction morally. However, many times scripture is taken out of context and can be misinterpreted and misconstrued to create a very wrong and negative aspect. Authors and readers need to be careful to read the passages in context and not take tidbits when wanted to make a message they want.

Drawing on religious text alone is not enough to dissuade the potential reader, I think. But, it is slightly sinister to present a book as non-denominal and secular when it is structured around biblical principles.

Honestly, I draw inspiration from all books not minding whether they are religious books or not. Therefore, I didn't find the Bible verses a barrier to my understanding and enjoyment of the book. More so, I personally feel that the teachings in this book go beyond any religious content or belief. It's meant to correct our attitude by making to have a better understanding of ourselves and the environment and to use such knowledge to better ourselves.

Though the inclusion of Bible verses could be a turnoff for non-Christian readers, for me, I think the content of the book is far beyond any religious belief. It was beautifully crafted by the author to exodus readers from their previous states of misidentification and wrong judgments. I personally do not mind which tenets it's written, I found the book is highly inspirational and invaluable.

I don't think it would put off anyone. The book itself has instructive steps to follow, and there are also quotes from renown people like Shakespeare.

It's focus is to help the reader be in tune with themselves, and I think it achieves that goal, without being a religious book.

I think including texts from the scripture in a self-help book certainly limits its reach. As a muslim, I am unable to relate to a lot of the biblical references. That is not to say the references were not relevant, but they were quite distracting.

I can see where some may be put off my the Scripture in the book. As a Christian, I appreciate any text backed by scripture. However, I still that people from other religious can read the book and find that even if you don’t know the scriptures, at its core the book can still be beneficial.

First of all, I think this is a great question. It seems that many self-help books are based on religious doctrine. When you are talking about guiding the direction of your life or being in control of your future, I believe you are not simply addressing the body or even the mind. You are addressing the being as a spiritual being--the one who makes the decisions and choices and postulates the future. For me, the spiritual aspect of life is the essence of religion. Second, though I am not a Christian, I have a strong appreciation for the Bible which I have read and find some of it personally inspiring. I do not see those passages as a turnoff because from them springs the author's discussion of applying them to your own life. And finally, having been involved with the interfaith community, I find that most religions have far more similarities than differences, and people of various religious backgrounds can appreciate what they offer.

When I chose quotes from the bible, to put in this book, it is because I look at the bible as the best self-help book I'v ever read. Had I read the Gita, the Tora, or the likes, I feel certain I could have extracted just as many remarkable quotes :) Rob

Deriving idea from the scripture limit the audience because all people are not Christian, some are Muslim and they will not be able to relate. I think self-help books should be written without quotes from the Bible.

Even though the author mentioned some passages in the Bible, I still think that people of all religion who want to have a better life would find this book intriguing and helpful.

The fact is that believe systems varies. But one thing I appreciate is that the book did not in any way speak profane to any other religion. I appreciate learning any where I can find it. What I read must not appeal to me in every way but it is enough for me to know that I learned something and did not waste my time. There's a lot to learn from the book. Even though it has biblical contents, I believe none Christians can learn from it. However, in other not to make people feel antagonized, I'd not recommend it to anyone who's not a Christian

I believe being a self help book, other religions apart from christians should enjoy it. Rather than focusing on the Bible reference and feeling limited by it, we can read and get value from the book.

I do only think people outside the Christian faith would agree with the flow this book had.

I found this amazing self-help book to be very universal in how it was written. Even with the use of the Bible verses to aid in explaining various parts, I did not feel it was more Christian. It could easily be enjoyed and be useful to anyone who chooses to read it.
