Kindle Pros and Cons

Post by Anika Claassen »

Is it just me or does an eBook not quite give the full experience of a good page turning novel? As an avid reader, I have switched to digital versions of the books, because they are cheaper and more compact. I have a kindle Fire HD and I love it, especially when there is not a Half Price Books or Barnes and Noble anywhere near me (I go to pretty remote places for vacation). The books are way cheaper online because there is no paper involved, your basically paying for the authors labor and sometimes for the title if its a very popular novel. So why am I not sold?
Well, because when you consider books like Maze Runner, Divergent, Hunger Games, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Book Thief, and many others, they all share one thing: a page turner! How can the book build anticipation and excitement when there are no actual pages to nearly tear of the book as you try to get to the next page. As a reader I love the feeling of getting near to the end. Where your hand has to adjust to the unbalanced weight, and your wrist gets wrinkles as the book is clutched open in pure excitement, fear, anticipation or just pure joy. I sometimes get so into the book and living the characters that I start to count down the pages left, so that I can mentally prepare myself for the ending. While the Kindle gives me page counts, it simply doesn't measure up to the thrill of doing it myself.
Furthermore, this evaluation does not constitute for all books. I would much rather buy my sweet straightforward romance novels on m kindle because they are much cheaper and does not require the same page turning quality. Of coarse there are exceptions, especially when it comes to classics, but most $3 romance novels do not need to be read in the printed form.
In conclusion, the reader should consider a balance between real and online books based on interest and re-readability.
