I tried to awhile back. But I just can't get into it because many people who get me books know that I just love the smell and the feel of reading a real book. I have a kindle and don't get me wrong I love it and I finish books ten times faster on my Kindle. But I just can't get away from my want of books and one day to have my own library. :)

I have switched to Kindle now. I very rarely buy a paper book any more. The only times I by paperbacks or hardbacks is to give the as gifts.

I love to fill my shelves with actual books. I'd love one day to show my kids all those going-to-be classics-someday books.
I do read from my ipod once in a while, if i'm going to sleep or out somewhere (and i dont have access to the book). other than that, i love having the actual book.

I go a kindle for christmas and love it!
I've barely put it down and have read about 8 books so far.

It's awesome to be able to read all of those bizarre, classic and hard to find books, without waiting for 2 years to be able to borrow them at the library.

The only problem is now I find myself buying all of these awesome books in paperback, just to lend to people!

I can't see myself ever giving up real books, I just like the feel of them, I like being able to flick through the pages. I bought a Sony eBook reader about 18 months ago and couldn't get on with it, I think it was too small. So I sold it. However... my mother-in-law (she is 89) was given a Kindle for Christmas (not by me!). I downloaded a load of free books on to it and she sat reading them, over Christmas. [...] I'm now considering buying a Kindle myself - but I still can't see myself ever giving up books.

I don't think I could ever fully switch unless there was no other choice. I like the feel of a book, the sound of pages turning and sometimes even the smell if you can understand that.

I used to read lots before the computer era back 20 years ago and then I quit and spent all my time on the computer... Until... I got my hands on a Kindle and started reading again one year ago and I've read over a dozen books since then! I love it! My partner has a Kobo Touch and she loves it too. :D

The only downside to completely giving up the old fashioned archaic paper book is what will you do when the power goes out? Or you don't have a power outlet available? Or, god forbid, you accidentally drop your e-book into the water - I fish, an it has happened on more than one occasion. My wife, who likes to read in the bath, has also had a few mishaps in her time, as can be seen by some of the water damaged books on our bookshelf. I'm all for technology, I have a fish finder and gps in my boat and own an iphone, but sometimes unplugging from everything and just reading a book is the only way to escape.

This is the one I suggest, if you are thinking about getting an Ipad.

Ever since I got my Android Galaxy Tab (the small one), I've been reading there more and more. I do miss actual books a lot, but currently I'm in the process of changing furniture, so I can't buy real books for now. I'm reading ebooks now, to prevent having book withdrawal symptoms XD

I have never heard of a Nook??? Is it the same as a Kindle?? I would like to try a kindle, but think I would miss the feel of turning pages. Though a backlit book would be handy in those dark corners. I too enjoy arranging my books on the shelves of the bookcase. Sadly I even find myself staring at that bookcase with great pleasure. :D

I've actually made the transition to Kindle reading and Iphone. I didn't think I'd be able to enjoy reading anymore, but I love it. I love the ease of purchase and being able to read anytime, anywhere!!

Since December of last year, I read my Kindle exclusively. I love it! I really like that I can take all of my books with me in 1 small device. It fits in my purse or totebag and quick and easy to turn on and choose my book. I get a lot of my books free through Amazon so I don't spend a lot on then. There are a few authors I'm willing to pay more for their books, but they are still usually a little less than "real" books. I have the Kindle Touch, so it's not backlit. I have a little light that I use for night time reading if I need it.

No, books in digital format have their uses and are great for convenience but I doubt they will ever replace paper versions completely.

I have - in the middle of the night I can go to the library over the internet and download an ebook that I want. I read on my smart phone with a kindle and a nook app - it's lit - and I always have the phone with me. It is so convenient and I am really enjoying all these new indie authors. There's a lot of good writers out there we are now meeting.
