Never happens to me. I just can't enjoy my book that much with all the movement and shaking of the car.

This always happens to me. I can never read on trips or anything, just scrolling through Facebook while in the car makes me sick!

I have always read in a vehicle so I may just be immune to it. I even used to do homework on the school bus when I forgot to do it at home...

I get motion sick sometimes even when I'm not reading. They used to tell me I'd grow out of it but at this point, I doubt it will ever happen.

Things that help me read in a moving vehicle to one degree or another:
Block the side view (very effective on a train or in an RV, harder in a car)
Never sit backwards or sideways to the direction of motion (car, train, boat, or bus)
Sea Sickness wristbands (good for things other than sea sickness!)
Dramamine 24-hour (the meclazine less drowsy version; the diphenhydramate version is useless for me)
Ginger (I like to nibble candied ginger, munch ginger snap cookies with real ginger, or the REAL ginger brew soda which usually comes in glass bottles. For me the cheaper more typical ginger ale doesn't cut it, it has to be the real deal. Ginger tea works too)
Eat frequently (this seems counterintuitive when you're feeling sick but tiny bits frequently are easier on your stomach than big meals)
As a last resort, phenergan works wonders on the nausea but unfortunately, I can't stay awake to read if I take it. I'm out for the count.

Yeah I usually get.
When I studied in University every weekend I'd travel home to see family. I'd get really motion sick because I loved reading in the bus but then I had to give up until I found some pills that keep me from getting motion sick.
It was in Portugal and I don't know the name in English, sadly.

I don't personally have this problem but my future mother-in-law does so what she does when reading anything in the car is hold it up straight in front of her. It seems to help. It might get tiring though so I don't know how long you can do it for. If I suffered from this I don't know what I would do. But good luck

This is because your senses are disagreeing with each other, for lots of people it is the motion of the car, for others the smell. While you are seeing the interior of the car which is mainly motionless your vestibular system in your ear is sensing motion, causing conflict in your senses. More modern cars may have anti-static rubber strips which lessens the motion and can decrease the amount of motion sensed by your vestibular system also decreasing nausea.

I've never had this problem. Books were the only thing that got me through long car rides to visit family when I was a kid. If you are the driver or if you can get the whole car to agree, audio books are so fantastic for long rides.

I can't really do audio books so being the driver sucks for me because I love reading in the car. I really do feel bad for people who can't read while on road trips. (I also love your avatar! Rory Gilmore is amazing)

I stopped reading after I couldn't defeat my motion sickness. I'm usually out cold in cars while listening to music now which is my way of combating motion sickness. I get real nauseous if I read in moving vehicles and when I rest, I'm out cold anyway. I never got motion sickness as a kid but now, it's the bane of my life during extended car trips. My sis has no problems reading in the car though. She does comment on how I'm always out like a light when the car starts moving... Not sure why but cars make me sleepy.

Bonine helps me - I believe that Dramamine has the same ingredient as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) - I do know it is sometimes given in IV form for nausea. Bonine is Meclizine which is also known as Antivert. It is usually given to people who suffer from vertigo. I do have mild vertigo which is why I think it helps me where Dramamine does not.

Sorry to get all medical techie...

I get motion sick if I read anything in a car. So sad! One time when I had a 14 hour road trip I checked out some audio books from the library and that definitely helped to pass the time.
