The last place the book was closed on is what it opens up to the next time, even if you hop between books. It 'remembers'.

Yes, it has, and this will make your read more quickly. I honestly value this feature, which compelled me to love more ebooks than paper books. You should not think now and give ereaders a try.

I have a computer e-reader called Book Bazaar Reader and there's a feature wherein you can bookmark the page you're in. Otherwise, it's just automatic that you'll be redirected from the page you're on last time.

I mainly read e books with e pub or pdf. For the epub file I use Freda to open it up. For these two files I usually just leave the app open on my computer or write down the page number. But you can always almost use bookmarks.

I read on Kindle app, and I don't have trouble locating where I left off. Usually when I resume the book just opens at where I read last.

Agree. I have a Kindle and it always opens up where I left off. But If I send it to another device, it doesn't remember and then you need the bookmark.
There is a feature in settings called “whisper sync” where it will sync your most read page to your different devices. Mine asks me when I open it on my kindle or phone if I’d like to go to most read page with a time stamp.

My kindle fire and kindle app just open up to where I last left off. If I’m jumping back to look at something though, I can bookmark my current page to remember where I was or I can sync to the furthest read.
