Yes, I will agree that the feeling of isolation is a common factor in both the pandemic and this book. But I felt that the book held a more aggressive tone with it's isolation, whereas the pandemic was filled with fear rather than pure distrust.

There were some similarities but they weren't much. One of them was having to live alone or being stuck with family like you said.

Yes, I did see similarities in the social effects of the pandemic and the plot of the book. The isolation and safety issues the characters delt with felt very similar to real life during the pandemic.

I think you are correct. The similarity to the pandemic is glaring. It was sad but I cannot deny that fact. I cannot imagine reliving that reality again.

Yep. It gave me chills because I almost went crazy during the pandemic. It was so much like it and I do not like that one bit

I agree. The plot was similar to that of 2020. The lockdown, isolation, restrictive movements and all were solar to what we experienced that year.

It reminded me a lot about the pandemic. I knew from the first page where it talked about lockdowns and restricted movements.

Isolation wise, yes, I find it very similar. I wouldn't go as far as saying it was an allegory per se, but it was deffinitely a good representation of the times we were living with the lockdown, wether it was intentional or not.

I agree. It did give that vibe and I'm glad the author made the book relatable to the current times.

I had the exact same thought. The separation among the people definitely resembled that of the pandemic. Everyone was so isolated from each other just like we were.

There was a very big similarity between the storyline and the covid pandemic, when I came across this book weeks ago and read it, I had flashbacks and memories of what I experienced with people during the pandemic.

I would say sort of. I could tell that the author probably had some influence from the pandemic while writing since it was released around that time, but otherwise it felt like more of an apocalyptic scenario to me. World ending, aggressive and mistrusting colonies forming, people left to fend for themselves, etc... It could probably relate just as much to a zombie fantasy as it could to the pandemic.

When you give it some thought, it does present an essentially identical circumstance. When I think back to how simply showing up in a public place with an improperly worn mask could result in a reprimand, the mistrust really sinks in.

We also notice the isolation, where people only want to be associated with their close relations. This is definitely what happened too with many of us during the pandemic.
And even with your family members, you can't even tell who was without the disease and who wasn't. Very relatable.

The discrimination of the abnormals was similar to the discrimination against covid patients. They had to isolate in a place where they felt safe.
