The use of vengeance as motivation is very intriguing to me. I really enjoy it when books take emotions that are socially accepted as "negative" and blur the lines a little bit. Just because someone wants vengeance does not make them an evil character. They could just be highly protective and passionate about their values.

Learning life lessons about the gray areas within emotions is one of my favorite things about reading.

I learnt about determination, and that we should never let situations or people hold us back or define who we are. Most importantly, I've learned to not hold on to vengeance or anger.

Patience and hard work are important values I learnt. Another virtue I learned is that forgiveness and letting go of situations that can't change helps us become better persons

I think that we tend to view certain emotions with a negative connotation. However, in this book especially, it is important to view humans' multitude of emotions on a spectrum without "right" or "wrong" feelings. Our emotions, all of them, are what make us human and allow us to succeed.

I learned that one should never give up! In fact, the best revenge is success. So instead of sulking when people don't believe in you or refuse to acknowledge your efforts, channel that energy into becoming a better version of yourself and back it up with hardwork. The success that comes with that leaves a sweet revenge on those who did not see your worth.

Don't give up, choosing to give up or choosing to not do something is a choice. You're always making a choice, even if you're choosing to do nothing.

I learnt that vengeance isn't always bad. Although typically it's regarded as a negative emotion, in the book it served as a powerful motivator for Cole.

Debra Morgan wrote: 04 Jun 2022, 20:31 I didn't actually learn this but rather had it reinforced: Even when no one else believes in you, the only thing that matters is that you believe in yourself. That is the most difficult thing for anyone to do. I didn't enjoy the book, to be honest, but I do appreciate this aspect of it.
Thanks for sharing your honest opinion Debra Morgan. I wholeheartedly agree with you. I appreciate that the book could be vastly improved with better editing and perhaps fewer expletives. It would then be a good book if you like that kind of book. I wouldn't normally choose to read it but it certainly does reinforce a valuable message about self belief.

An important lesson displayed in this book is that it is important to have perseverance in the face of adversity.

Two things I took from this book are patience and perseverance. They might sound the same but they definitely aren't. Patience has to do more with time and perseverance with strength in different areas. I also learnt that letting our negative emotions lead won't always be the best choice.
