Yes a similarity can be seen. Particularly with the mistrust that can be seen throughout this book. Just like in the pandemic everyone was suspicious of the next person. If you dared to sneeze in public, you’d be judged heavily by the next person.

The feeling of isolation and uncertainty that accompanied the pandemic was also portrayed in this book. Apart from that I didn't find any other similarities.

I think the major similarity the book has to the pandemic is the way people isolated themselves. Also, just like the time of the pandemic, people were constantly living in a state of fear due to the war going on.

I don't think that there were outright references to the pandemic, but the behaviour and emotions do seem similar to that of a person in a pandemic.

I agree that there are similarities between the happenings of this book and that of the pandemic. The clamour for safety, isolation, mistrust and even the emotions of the characters described made the situation relatable.

There wasn't any direct link to the pandemic, but I noticed the correlation between the way people stuck to themselves in the book and the way people behaved during the pandemic.

I agree the novel has a lot of similarities with the pandemic due to the isolation, segregation and mistrust that everyone experienced.

Yes, the book has mirrored the pandemic in a way, I will also agree with the author that it is very similar to pandemic as isolation. When it started most people thought it was the end of the world.

Absolutely! Even out in public it was easy to feel isolated. It became a question of which team you were on. Having allergies in springtime made you a leper. So, yes. There were quite a few similarities that one could reduce were indirect mentions of the pandemic.

This was my exact thought the further I read. That apocalyptic feel. During the pandemic, we all thought that was it. Every movie and book about the end of the world was finally coming to pass. Now that we're past it, reading this book brought smiles to my face as I saw the similarities. Self-isolation, living in fear of strangers, ....there are definite similarities.

It's interesting, right? There weren't really any clear connections with the pandemic, but we realize that life really is a lot like how the pandemic made us live.

I guess there are lots of similarities between pandemic and the ploting in the book as both encompasses isolation and mistrust towards others.

I think there was certain similarity with pandemic such as isolation in particular with a measure of safety.

I had seen this forum before reading the book, so I was already aware there would be a connection.
It wasn't an outright comparison, but I love when authors take real life scenarios and twist them for their fiction. I could relate to some of the characters in some of their emotions, and could definitely see the connections between the behaviors of the characters in the book and the reactions I've witnessed from people during the pandemic.

I agree with you. In fact, I think it is not only this book that was written during or after the pandemic containing similar features. Could be the trauma of the pandemic, but this book has so many similarities to it. The behaviour of the characters was the most relatable.
