What I found in the book were themes of discrimination, racism, determination, judgement and kindness

Everyone would agree that the theme of racism stood out the most in the book. Other themes I noticed where friendship, kindness and teamwork. They also played a role in the plot of the book.

In addition to racism, friendship and (in)justice are the themes that I noticed in the book.

Theme of racism, theme of determination, theme of patience, theme of discrimination. These were the most evident themes.

The theme of racism seems to be the most prominent in the book. However, war and the act of kindness are themes which cannot be ignored iether.

I must say I usually hate to see themes of racism in a book because as a coloured person myself who has experienced severe struggles, it enrages me to the core and my mental health can't stand even reading about it. However, this book blended the themes of race with perseverance and self determination quite well. The character struggles are internal as well as external.

I do believe racism was one of the overarching themes in this book and it reflected in the way different people got preferential treatment simply on the basis of their color.

Racism is a really bad aspect of the human race, because as a result of thinking lowly of others they are tend to be treated badly even though they clearly don't deserve it.

One of the profound there's within this book is racism, and it is evident in the way the abnormals were treated by the society. I also think that the determination of the abnormals is a theme too.

To me, survival is very important theme. Surviving the apocalypse was not easy. Translating it to reality, one can but wonder what it will be like trying to live when 99% of the world couldn't make it.

There was the theme of discrimination in the book. It is appalling that people choose to judge others, not for their character, but for their appearance or background.

I'm glad that I found a book with such deep themes. I would love to read it for myself.

The themes of determination and perseverance pervade the book and that is something I find appealing being a person born in difficult circumstances.

Owuamanam wrote: 01 Jun 2022, 10:46 I feel the story of Kaarina and Monty is similar to the story of most individuals who face racism. They are persecuted for something that was not their fault. They were born abnormal and with special abilities. They didn't choose to be born with a special gift. However, they have to face the consequences of being born that way. Relatively, I feel one of the themes in the book is racism. Those who were normal felt threatened and hunted the abnormal. What other themes could you identify from the book?
You are right. we don't choose to be born the way we are, hence there should not really be some unequal treatment based on how you happen to be. Very racist
