Racism shows in different works of life, and it can be really hard, but it helps the attacked grow in their level of determination and perseverance. So I guess for me, those are the theme of this book.

What stood out for me was Kindness. Kaarina didn’t have to care for Monty, but she was kind enough to do so. Although they were being treated like less than humans, her act of kindness showed more humanity than the people who thought themselves to be humans.

I agree with you that their being born that way wasn't their fault so they shouldn't be discriminated against. The book also has the theme of war, determination and survival.

Their anomalous birth wasn't their fault in the least, but I don't enjoy the discrimination they went through. The ability to persevere in the face of adversity is one of their main strengths. I also recognized the idea of vengeance.
