I did not notice any references to the pandemic nor did I really see any similarities. I think the issue is that it evoked similar emotions from reading this book that people felt during the pandemic.

Yes. This book reminds me so much of the pandemic we are currently facing. The behavior and emotions of the characters are similar to what we are experiencing today. With people isolating and avoiding each other, definitely similar to today.

There are some similarities there for sure which are seen in the social distancing, distrust for others, and isolation.

The behavior was totally similar in regards to the characters isolating themselves in groups. Lack of trust is also there which was also there during the pandemic.

I think it is human nature. Humans do not actively try to do thinga out of their comfortzone. Things like groups exist in real life, pandemic or no pandemic , they are just more obvious in isolated conditions.

Since it's setting is in apocalyptic world, it really is similar to the pandemic. With the sudden appearance of the virus on the large population on several countries, it is similar when the descendants started to show abnormalities. They were judged by the people and made them feel like they have a contagious diseases, it is similar as to when we just sneezed or did a light cough in public places, people will start to judge that you are positive for the virus. Also when the apocalypse started, the humanity became divided. It is just like when there were people who didn't believe in wearing masks in public places. We really did live somehow in an apocalyptic-like world.

Having to watch people move few steps away from you, just because you are a doctor and might spread the disease if infected from your patients, was the most difficult part of the journey for me. Yes, some parts resonated with me at an entirely different level.😅

There are not much pandemic similarities, but I believe that the behavioral patterns of the characters showed a little glimpse of what the pandemic felt like.

There are definitely some similarities between the book and the pandemic. The entire idea of isolation and group living is what the pandemic was about.

I agree there are similarities to the pandemic, shown characteristically by the separation, suspicions and isolation from others. It has an apocalyptic undertone.

The restriction to just a circle one feels comfortable with bears great similarities to how we all lived during the pandemic. Visitors weren't allowed, and families kept to themselves all the time to reduce the spread of the virus.

I totally agree with you. There is this humor that I sensed in this book. People moving in colonies, it is just like moving in the midst of a pandemic.

To be honest, I haven't noticed the similarity. I guess, isolation and being suspicious of everything and everyone are similar. Yet, the atmosphere outlined in the book gave me more intense feelings as people kill each other for no reason, which was not the case during the pandemic.

I agree that there were similar references to the pandemic. The feeling of loneliness. The need to be with people close to you. Also the quest for survival are similarities in out world and the book.

I think the fact that there did seem to be similarities just shows that when humanity is faced with difficulty the immediate reaction is self-preservation and suspicion which leads to separation. It did make it feel more realistic.
