The focus on emotions was a masterstroke by the author. It made the book personal for me and took me through rollercoaster of emotions.

As someone who grew up in a country with no army, books about wars evoke mostly negative feelings for me. However, I agree with the post; this book felt different, more human.

The book was heavy on the character's perspective. Reading from the point of view of those who witnessed the war kept readers on a roll of emotions. I can't even imagine the PTSD's that will come from that.

I had the exact same feelings! Eventhough I felt angry with Roxy, I couldn't bring myself to hate her for what she did with Steve. This book wasn't about the happenings in the battlefield, instead it focused on the lives of common people and how war affects them. Author's writing style was so captivating that I could feel every emotion that Steve was feeling .

It was painful. Although I've read other accounts of the Vietnam War, this one focused on the local area. It helped me relate to a book about the conflict that took place in my own nation.

I appreciated the fact that I'm not in a country where there is war and hoped that the people at war right now will stop.

I felt angry most of the time because of the brutality. I also felt happy about the love Steve and Roxy shared at first, but even that faded.

Roxy and Steve's point of view when critically looked at would reveal that, while humans no doubt have their flaws and make mistakes, war brings out the worst possible conditions for people to live.

I have compassion for war victims. especially the children and students. I'm an emotional person, so reading a novel about war is not something I do lightly. I had to suppress my feelings in order to perceive the good outcome.

I see that concentrating on people's feelings is very important. They are the key element and the greatest loss in each war. It is very painful for me, though.

This is one of the first books I've read about the Vietnam war, and it affected me differently than books I've read that have taken place during other wars. It made me feel incredibly grateful to be able to go to university and pursue a career I want, rather than being forced to fight in a war I don't believe in.

What did it made you feel?
It made me feel anxious and sad. I do not ever want to be put in a position where I would be hiding because of a war. I also felt bad for the victims. No one should have to go through what they went through.

I think that the younger generation was going through a period of uncertainity. Here you have the most democratic nation in the world, yet there was turmoil and chaos going on. People were being killed because they were standing up or their rights. It was a sad and tragic decade.

I felt sad and scared for what could be. I do not want to imagine experiencing the horrors those people saw. I felt like I was drowning in pain just from reading this book.
