It gives you a new view on war, as it doesn't romanticize it, and you see how it affects the normal person in such a horrific thing as a war. War is too often romanticized and we need more novels like this to help show the truth of how it actually is.

To me, the style of the author made the story more personal and I enjoyed that I could be part of Steve's emotions and decisions, even some of the other characters in the book. There was a lot of mixed emotions and themes throughout the book and it kept me wondering and analyzing what I would have done in a similar situation.

I sympathized with the victims. Unfortunately, innocent people died. Steve's mental fortitude during the protests was something I respected.

It's so clearly depicted, the ravaging effects of wartime that I felt a strange sense of adrenaline in some parts of this book. Also, some death scenes hit me really hard.

I completely agree with you! It reminds me of Ken Follett in his Millenium Trilogy. It's about WW1, WW2, and the Cold War, but it is more about following the five families through these three major 20th century events.
It goes beyond the facts and shows us how it might have been to live through it.

In the course of reading this book, many emotions have been evoked. I felt sad, angry, betrayed, loved, and pain, etc. The book was all worth it.

I agree on the roller coaster part. Very lots of ups and downs in this book. But i feel more for Steve, his struggle and actions, all of his emotions. As for Roxy, I dissaprove with most of her actions at times she seems like she mostly follows her feelings instead of thinking things through.

I feel like it is kinda strange to not really have a reaction. I don't know if it's because my generation is numb to things like war, but there wasn't a real reaction to descriptions of war.

I think I loved the writing style the most, as it adapted to each scene in the book. The author knew how to twist words to make sure the readers feel every impact of the emotions in there.

I was grateful that I am not compelled to fight in a war. Regardless of whether you actively participated in the conflicts or not, they had a significant impact on everyone. So I consider myself fortunate. I was grateful for it.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book as much, but I am pleased I gave it a shot. The old man's passing and the wife's reactions to it were two major aspects that moved me. Being married myself, I was terrified that one day one of us would experience a similar loss.

I feel bad for the war casualties. especially the children and students. I'm an emotional person, so reading a novel about war is not something I do lightly. I had to suppress my feelings in order to perceive the good outcome.

I was sad, it simply wasn't a nice time to be alive.
Then I was also bothered, if the war was this bad, why does it seem like our generation is pushing for one?

I feel like it was a wholesome novel. Given the circumstances at the time, it's amazing to see how the characters developed and act on it.
