No, she wasn't definitely bot in a normal state of health, I wonder why she wasn't treated in the book

I think she is suffering from mental trauma, because of the death of her husband and daughter, for me, she is not in a normal state of mind.

She was also firmly entrenched in a religion that did not allow room for anything or anyone outside the box. This part of the book was painful for me because I cannot imagine not having the love of a mother.
Denial is one dangerous thing and am like you too, I can't imagine my mum not loving me.

Roxy's mother could be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. It could also be that her upbringing and religious background contributed to it.

Audrey's death affected the mental health of Roxy's mother. Continuous denial of the truth chased her to overreact at most time. So I believe we is not in a normal mental state.

I don't think that she had a mental illness. First, her relation with Roxy wasn't good from the beginning, then she gets more disappointed by her daughter's behavior. So, I think that what she did wasn't surprising especially at that era.

It depends on the observer's point if view which is usually influenced by the person's immediate environment. From mine, I believe she is well on her way to mental instability; lack of denial over her former daughter's death and also the fact that she doesn't truly love her daughter should be root the cause of her behavior.

Roxy's mother made it clear even before her son died that she wasn't the favorite. The trauma of her husband and son's deaths exacerbated the situation, and she blamed Roxy for it.

No, her anger is an indicator of resentment that had accumulated over time. She also seems brainwashed the religion.

She doesn't appear to be ill in my opinion; rather, I believe it is because she was too preoccupied with her deceased daughter and never warmed to Roxy. Second, it appears that way because of her excessive religiosity.

I feel like the death of her daughter exacted a mental and psychological toll on her and she was not ready to confront it yet.

Roxy's mother was actually not in a normal state. Anyone who was in her shoes would understand why she acted that way. Although, I think she kind of overreacted a bit.

Possibly she is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. It can also be argued her upbringing and religious background has something to do with it

I believe she was still struggling with the loss of her husband and daughter. Perhaps some state of mild shock or PTSD. When Roxy mentioned her heavy lean into religion after their deaths, it really sounded like she was grasping for some way to cope. Also, mistaking Roxy's love for pink and all things that her sister loved seemed very out of character for someone who's at their full mental capacity.

As a very religious person, the rejection of Roxy and Steve doesn't shock me so much, since I know some people can lean into their faith heavily.
