Although Roxy's intention of joining the police force was to change the system, not to make her happy, but the relationship is said to be weird to me, one major proof of that is how Steve is still begging Roxy after he caught her with one of his friends. That is disgusting to me.

I'd tell him to go to law school. One, policing is more dangerous than lawyering. Two, you get paid well while still doing good (after all, some people are wrongly convicted), and three, a change of environment and distance between him and Roxy would help him decide whether staying by her side is worth it.

I had the feeling thy Steeve is giving his life away to Roxy. This is because he takes decisions on her approval and choice.

Yes, Steve was influenced by Roxy at the beginning of the novel and he was on the verge of throwing his life away for the sake of pleasing Roxy.

At first, I thought that too, but if most of his decisions were influenced by Roxy, he would have left when she wanted him to. Let’s say she helped him get on his path.

Yes, Steve was throwing his life away for roxy. Roxy's love for Steve was tied to Steve's continuous involvement in the anti-establishment movement.

I initially believed that he was throwing his life by sticking around for Roxy, but he did leave after she cheated on him. As a result, he was actually in the police to start over and not for Roxy.

At first assessment of the relationship, I thought Steve was squandering his life by staying around for Roxy. However he did quit after she cheated on him. So I believe he was in the police force to make a difference rather than stay around for Roxy.

I had the impression that Steve made several choices solely to maintain his relationship with Roxy, and to be honest, I didn't enjoy it. If Steve wanted it really bad and not just to be with his fiancée, I would suggest that he join the Providence Police Department.

If Steve is my friend in real life, I would suggest, he will let go of Roxy. I found their love deceitful. It's not true love at all. It's just one-sided.

I feel he somehow did start the whole ordeal to please Roxy in a way so, if he were my friend in real life then I'd definitely say he was throwing his life away for a girl. But later on, his motivations did turn personal rather than for Roxy.

If I were to have a friend like Steve, I wouldn't have allowed him make some decisions he did to please Roxy. Yes, it is good to make sacrifices in a relationship, but it should be done with moderation. It would have made more sense if Roxy reciprocated some of Steve's gestures. I wouldn't want to have such a relationship.

It was a n unhealthy relationship. Steve was constantly pondering what Roxy would think about his actions, and she seemed to be a bit too dependant on him in the beginning. It seems that after she found out what she wanted from life, her plans for the future did not align with Steve's, because he wanted to settle down so fast. Of course, that's no reason to cheat, and I'm glad Steve ended it there.
