At first, it felt like Roxy was influencing his decisions, but as the going got harder. Steve stood out on his own. He could have left the polo e force when things got difficult.

I share your sentiments on this, I also wonder if Steve would've joined the police or if, once in the police force, he would've joined the "system" if it weren't for Roxy.

I think that Roxy influenced some of the decisions taken by Steve almost all the time because Steve was afraid of losing her, he was ready to do anything just to make her happy.

Steve is only adhering to Roxy's instructions; he is not making his own decisions. She pleaded with him to go to the marches, and she urged him to do more to stop what was happening by joining the police. I think she's just using him to her advantage since he wants to win her over and is frightened of losing her.

Love is one intense thing, it makes people do the most surprising thing. But we all want to be loved like Roxy.

I have the impression that he is simply doing what Roxy says. He went to the protests because she begged him to, and he joined the police because she wants him to do more to make things better. I have the impression that he is trying to impress her.

Steve was not making any decision of his own, he always adhere to Roxy's decisions, because he was afraid of losing her.

I felt that Steve had a strong desire to be a lawyer. But the change to start working as a police officer might be due to some influence from Roxy. At first, he wanted to wipe out injustice from the system. But deep down, he wished to be with Roxy. As the story progresses, there were many instances where he took several decisions by keeping her in mind.
Steve did take his own decisions, but his decisions revolved around Roxy and her desires.

Because Steve always considered what Roxy would say, in my opinion, he never made decisions. He would abandon the concept if Roxy did not approve. He seemed more like a prisoner to me than a coworker.

I think he is following his own decisions but with a push from Roxy either directly or indirectly.

Steve was only trying to be at peace with his girlfriend so sometimes, it was as if he always abide by her terms.

That is very true. He is very afraid to lose Roxy. He went to a martyr.

Everyone has a choice in their acts, in my opinion, and we should all accept responsibility for our deeds. Having said that, Steve's relationship to Roxy had a big impact on him and contributed to some of his poor choices.
