I don't think he can be said to have been successful, he ended up compromising on his ideals when confronted with a situation involving people he knew. If I were to give a verdict I'd say the system had more success in converting him.

In my opinion, he was a successful police officer. He achieved the objective he had for joining the police force.

I feel he was. He managed to change a whole lot about the system, although he did that through somewhat illegal means. Also, he tried to do the little that he could to stop corruption and he was punished for it.

To me he did not successfully fit, in fact, he encountered far more holes of corruption that were beyond his control.

Steve seemed satisfied with his mission at the end of the story. He was courageous and determined to make a difference in a corrupt system. It is not easy to move against the norm of a workplace.

Though he had a hard time of it, he remained loyal and honorable to his cause and did not fall prey to the corruption around him. He was successful in his endeavors as toward the end of the novel he received a package from Roxy with headlines about the crackdown on corruption, arrests of police officers made and the suicide of the police chief, McGuire.

Judging from his reasons for joining the police which was to deal with corruption from the inside I would say it was a difficult journey but he succeeded in making some corrupt police officers face justice

I personally believe he achieved what he wanted to do as a police officer. Yeah, he eventually resigns but he already made the impact he wanted to

I wouldn’t say he was unsuccessful though he wasn’t famous and he worked hard towards his cause and stayed loyal he was able to change the system and bring some corrupt officers to justice

Steve joined the force primarily to effect change. He was a good cop without a doubt because he did not join his colleagues in their corrupt conduct and went the extra mile by keeping the bribes as evidence. He was wise enough to alter tact and adopt a more feasible method as soon as he discovered that his approach to accomplishing the change he desired was simply theoretical.

He did, I'll admit, put an end to the corruptions. We don't know whether the corruption has really subsided, though; who knows? Because a lot of bad things happened while he was in charge, which must have been quite upsetting since he couldn't stop it all from happening. By taking out the key figures in the corrupt police, Steve did his best, but there is no guarantee that those who remained carried out different or better deeds. I have no idea whether he was successful. But Steve undoubtedly believed he was able to change things for the better.

I would say he succeeded, though at first, it seemed like an impossible mission. But in the end, all the bad guys were dealt with, so I think he succeeded.

He initially felt and assumed that his goal had been a failure.
However, as the book draws to a close, it is undeniably accurate to state that the change he desired did take place because all the corrupt guys were dealt with.

For me, I will say, "Yes!!". This depends on what we see and consider as success. He was able to protect his loved once to some extent, but he put himself in difficult situations to get the right things down, he also got some bad corrupt people to face the law. So in my opinion, he was successful.
