I actually love reading adult scenes in books, and that is one of the reasons why I love reading romance novels. I did not find it overwhelming at all. I loved the details personally. It was an enjoyable book.

No, I was not bothered. The adult scenes as explained by the author were the exact thing that happened. Although there's the fact that the author could have talked about the war without the adult scenes, but then it'd feel different from what it is.

Yes, I find adult scenes to be very disturbing since I come from a very conservative religious background.

Because of the plot and setting of the book, the adult scene in this book was acceptable to me.

No, it did not bother me at all.

I agree with you. It felt like it damaged the importance of the book's message when you had to every now and again flinch in awkwardness because of the explicit sex scenes. A little like the unnecessary sex scenes in every single fantasy series recently. I guess it is true that sex sells.

During that period, I believe that many American youths were really hippy and tended to live life the wild way. For me, the adult scenes did not bother me. I believe the author needed to paint the scenes vividly to truly transport readers to the experience of what it must have been like to live in that era. Tensions were high and individuals back then must have needed various outlets.

Not really, we are reading about college kids who are not even fully capable of making adult decisions yet. Of course, they will fall in and out of love and that love can't be depicted with just promising flowery words because they are just passionate young adults, it would have been unnatural not to depict that part of their life. I found the book quite balanced in all aspects.

The adult scenes is nothing for me. It adds another dimension to the book. I am not bothered with it one bit.

The adult scene in the book was too extreme. It could paint a bad picture and pollute the reader's mind.

I don't think adult scenes in a historical book should be troubling. If the author seeks to get an accurate representation then the presence of those adult scenes are rather invaluable

I felt the same way! I believe this is mostly because the narrator sexualizes women more than men. Not the characters but the narrator himself. The disparity made me feel uncomfortable and worsened the uncomfortable feeling whenever another sex scene would appear. Also because they would appear abruptly with no build-up. It felt abusive as a reader, as it's trying to sock and exploit only.

Sexual revolution was part of the protest era of the '70s. The movement was challenging the traditional behavior on sexuality and relationships. I think the intent for the adult scenes was to show the contrast between the traditional and the emerging behavior.
