Can religion be toxic?

Post by Mayang Bature »

In "Wild World," Roxy's mother despised her.

In a scenario like this, she must have informed her church group about the problem with her daughter. Do you believe her church's recommendations improved or aggravated the situation?

Religion is a different thing from Christianity in it's purest forms. If it is Religion, it is very toxic, but Christianity helps by loving.
It also depends on the mindset from the church group, if they focus on love, it would be better, but if they focus on judging and condemning, then there would be a lot of problems.

Religion can be toxic. As can be seen in the book, Roxy's mother's church recommendation did not make matter easier but fueled it. It is just good to isolate oneself from religion and embrace spirituality.

In some cases some religious organization add to problems instead of solving it. In Roxy's mother case I would like to believe that she informed her Church of her problems with Roxy and their recommendations aggravated the situation .

If you think about it, yes. But it shouldn't be. In the context of this book, it definitely was because it was going against the very thing the religions teach.

In this book, the zealotry of the characters was more of a selfish endeavour than a quest for spirituality. I don't believe religion should allow you to kill other people. I also think it was a misinterpretation of what the doctrines actually said.

Yes, Roxy's mother is brainwashed by religion and she is acting inhuman in the name of being saved.

It could be toxic depending on your religious sect, interpretation of advice, and regard for common sense.

I believe it's right for Roxy's mother to be hostile towards her daughter in terms of religion. I don't advise going against a religion you were trained with.

Religion can be toxic when one doesn't stop to think for themselves. When people also think everykne should practice what their religion teaches, that's also toxicity.

I don't think so. Roxy's mother claimed to be a Christian, I don't see the Christian religion as that which neglects or forsakes one's child.

Perhaps the teachings and doctrines that Roxy's mother have been listening to for years contributed to the way she despised her daughter. I also believe that whatsover recommendations the church gave her must have worsened the situation.

it depends on many things, some religions, are responsible for favoring only those who respect their own mandates to the letter. In addition, there is the issue of fanaticism that takes everything to the extreme, in any way representing something very toxic in the life of whoever is involved in it.

Yes, religion can be toxic, as in the case of Roxy's mother and how she treated her, not trying to understand or get to know her daughter instead calling her names and saying all sorts of things that made her daughter look like she had committed an unforgivable sin.

Religion can be very deceptive and in the majority of cases it is not biblical. In the narrative we see how the recommendation of the church ruined the already questionable relationship between mama Roxie and her daughter. The church contribution actually aggravated the situation as it was borne from the tradition of men rather than the christian's biblical principles.
