My favorite quote in the book is, "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle," by Rev. Dr. John Watson. This is so true. Some people have gotten so good at wearing a "mask," appearing to be just fine when underneath, they are truly struggling. A lot of people today use the phrase, "Fake it 'till you make it!" which helps to get them through the day, but they are truly fighting a battle on the inside. We all have our battles, big and small. Just being kind, seems like such an easy thing to do, but so many have difficulty doing it.

My favorite quote from the book was from Scott Hughes himself. "Be kind to yourself. And remember always that an apology without changed behavior is dishonest manipulation." As someone who has been struggling greatly with addiction, these words made me seriously self-reflect on myself. I normally try to leave up my old habits and after a few times still find myself apologizing to myself and going back to the bad old habits that I loathe.

I like this quote because so many people say the opposite, "You no more control the verbal thoughts that pop in your human brain than you control your heart's beats."

Now some people are coming around to thinking this way.

My favorite is "be honest". Honesty is something I rate high over most other values in life, and something I also tend to expect from my co-humans. I am very bad in tolerating any forms of dishonesty.

I couldn't stop thinking about this particular quote about man's insatiable quests.
"If the word “suffering” simply means having unfulfilled desire, then to be human is to suffer. That is because when one fulfills their current desires, more desires emerge".
This is absolutely true!

I had difficulty choosing my favorite, but three stood out to me.

I love the one: "truth is something that can be revealed not something that can be done". Truth comes naturally as it is the truth, it is what happened and what is. This made me think about how much work lying is, as you have to remember your lie and keep feeding it to make it seem like the truth.

This one made me go "oh, wow!": "You are not a human being having a spiritual experience; you are a spiritual being having a human experience" We come from God as he created us and we return to God when we die, then we go to heaven. We truly are just having a human experience. I have never thought of it like this.

Then I absolutely also love your fav quote: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle" You never know what the other person is going through or the reason behind why they are being rude or impatient. They might be going through something they are struggling to cope with.

My favorite quote from Scott's book: "The heaven of inner freedom and spiritual peace is already here." That says it all.

I adore the Sufi saying, "When the ego weeps for what it has lost, the spirit rejoices for what it has found," which goes like this: We feel more liberated and are able to be content in any situation when we set aside our false identities, or ego. I can relate to this, that is why I made it my favorite.

"The world only seems so cold and dark sometimes because you are so bright" was the best quote for me with a great message of encouragement in the dark world where evil is inevitable.

My favorite quote was definitely, "Don't force your beloved peanut butter on others." This quote was part of a meaningful analogy, but it was so hilarious and sudden that I laughed for a very long time. I will remember this quote for years.

"Imagine just one child starving to death, or just one child suffering day after day on the horrendous brink of starvation.
Just one child.
One child suffering and dying.
Picture it.
Now multiply that terrible feeling by millions."

This quote makes me very sad when I think about suffering children.

"For what has a man profited if he gains the world for the price of his soul?"

This is a verse from the Bible (Matt 16:26) also quoted in this book on page 168. I like this quote because the Bible says that our soul can be saved through Jesus.

"Unconditionally forgive others." I like that the author says that it is better we have to no longer see there as being anything to forgive in the first place.

"The Golden Rule: Treat others how you want to be treated."
These are words of Jesus from the Bible (Luke 6:31) quoted in this book. This verse teaches us how to treat others with love and respect - the way we would like to be treated by others.
