I like both versions, but I also think adding 'instead of yours.' would leave less space for misunderstandings. That is why I voted for changing the opening question.

I prefer the addition. That would help because it makes it clear that the previous memory is no longer influencing the mind.

I agree with the addition, and think it would help make the opening question easier to comprehend! :)

I hope I'm not overstepping, but perhaps the following phrasing could be a good compromise between the old and new? It seems to me to flow better. " If you went to sleep in your body in your bed with your memories, and awoke instead in my body, in my bed with my memories, would you notice a difference? Would there even be a difference?" Just brainstorming...might not be any better. I would choose the new version though.

I agree that it would be more clarifying. It still leads to the question of do I still retain my memories and gain yours as well. Or would we just swap across, because I think that would literally place one soul inside the conscious mind of another; therefore, did I really transition over, or am I you?

Clarification can never hurt. Without the phrase "instead of yours", the reader could assume you had your own memories along with the person whose body you're now inhabiting.

I understand what the opening question is trying to convey. In my opinion, keeping it the way it is would be great. But if the book's message would be better understood by the majority of readers if the message were changed, then changing it would be a much better choice.

I think it is fine as it is and it sounds better without the addition, but if a lot of people understood it wrong, it's probably better to be clear rather than poetic.

I agree with most of those who previously replied, that the addition of the phrase gives a tad more clarity, especially as the opening question. Both ways are understandable and forces the reader to be introspective, but I personally like the addition better!

I'm personally still in the process of reading while also reading other books. But from what I've gotten through so far definitely believe clarity would be nice. Without instead of yours it feels more like you still have your memories as well.

I would add "instead of yours" to remove any ambiguity.

The addition of "instead of yours" is a good idea. Clarity is essential in self-help books.

I believe that by including the words "instead of yours," the question will become clearer, which will lead to a better response.

I prefer the addition of, "Instead of yours" it offers clarity to the question. It makes sure that new readers aren't confused on if they still have their own memories too.
