Kindle Unlimited for self-purchase

Post by Jeffrey S Brown »

When the book format says self-purchase does a Kindle Unlimited download count as purchased?
What happens if I already own the book?
I haven't been able to locate an answer for these situations.

I've used kindle unlimited for self purchase before. I will upload a recipt for the KU alongside a screenshot showing I have thr book borrowed. It's never been an issue.

Amazon will save recipts for all books you've purchased so if you already bought the book through there I would imagine an old recipt is fine. You just need proof of purchase.

If the book format specifies "self-purchase," a Kindle Unlimited (KU) download typically does not count as a purchase since KU operates on a subscription-based model rather than an individual transaction. Most platforms consider a "purchase" as a direct buy, whether at full price or during a promotion, rather than a borrowed read.

What If You Already Own the Book?
If you have previously purchased the book, the system may recognize your ownership and prevent you from repurchasing it. However, if a new edition is available or if there's an option to buy a different format (e.g., paperback vs. Kindle), you might still be able to make a qualifying purchase.

If you're uncertain whether your ownership qualifies, you may want to check directly with the book provider or retailer's support team for clarification.
