While reading for Black History Month (or prior to this month), what is something interesting that you learned about African American history?

By reading the children's book, Mae Among the Stars by Roda Ahmed, I learned about the first African American woman who became an astronaut and went into space. I love how encouraging her parents were, even when her teacher was less encouraging. I ended up looking up a picture of Mae, and the last illustration of Mae Jemison in the book is based on one of her famous photos as an astronaut.

It was a great children's book!
