The fact that you mentioned that Freda could be comforting Delvin reminds me of Puss in Boots 3, when Perrito comforted Puss and brought him back to reality. I think every mainc character usually has a comforting creature that beings the best out of them and they have different kind of connection.

As Delvin left, he planned to perform magic in the city, of course he needed the rabbit which was an important piece for his tricks, but of course as time went by, and adventure came, the rabbits importance became obvious to me, it wasn't just the tricks but also that fact that the rabbit was a living friend to Borlock and was now in his care.

Delvin and Freda have an incredible connection which is adorable. Freda is not just a pet but a companion. Many people especially kids find comfort, companionship and friendship with their pets.

I share the sentiment that Delvin brought Freda with him because he was a crucial part of his magic show, especially in entertaining children. I also believe the rabbit was a friend to Delvin.
The gift turned out to be a curse. They killed him with kindness.

I think that she was an important side character in the story, and the author included her to showcase the importance of a positive support system.

Considering how humans are built, whenever we get hurt, we obviously gear toward finding serenity in other things. It can be places or animals, as was with Delvin.

Delvin and Freda had a strong bond and I agree that Freda was the main attraction of the show and should not have been left behind at Mistress Wilshaw's house.

I really loved Freda the rabbit. The part where she was free to go and she didn't really got to me.

Pets can be a source of warmth and bringers of peace to humans. This is a good explanation of why Delvin brought Freda with him.

I think it was a combination of things. In addition to being part of his show, I think Freda provided a sense of connection to Borlock and was also a source of comfort and companionship for Delvin. Delvin was on a dangerous mission with people he couldn't entirely trust. I think having Freda along was probably comforting, especially since she didn't run away when he tried to release her. Freda also turned out to be useful. I think that with every situation Freda helped Delvin in, their bond grew.

Apart from being a magic show prop, Freda is a pet. Pets are family, and you don't abandon (or eat) family.

On the subject of eating, though, rabbits are tasty!

The presence of Freda was rather comforting, considering the circumstances at that period.

As Delvin set out on his journey, he had intentions of showcasing his magic in the city. Naturally, he needed the rabbit, a crucial element for his tricks. However, as time passed and he embarked on various adventures, I came to realize the true significance of the rabbit. It wasn't merely a prop for Delvin's tricks; it held a deeper meaning as a living friend to Borlock, now entrusted to his care. The rabbit symbolized a bond between them, adding a heartfelt dimension to their relationship amidst the unfolding adventures.
