Both the movie,It’s a Wonderful Life, revolve around how one person can make such a huge difference in the lives of the people around them. This theme is one to consider everyday as we reflect on our own impact to those we interact with daily.

If Addison didn't survive, her mother, for one, would be devastated! Not to mention her best friend, Hazel would blame herself and so would Booker. Booker is in love with Addison, and he would never recover from her death.

For those who didn’t know Addison well (or at all) before December 7, perhaps someone else would have filled the void that was left if she had not returned. But Booker and Hazel (and Addison’s mom, of course) would probably hold unresolved guilt for the rest of their lives. This burden would affect every relationship they would ever have. It sounded like Booker was putting the pieces together about Addison’s reaction after he talked with Hazel, but if Addison had not survived, they may have been so caught up in their unfounded guilt and blame that they may not have even spoken to each other. Thankfully, this scenario never materialized, and I was glad Addison returned to school before winter break.

I like to wonder that 'what if' scenario. One thing for certain is all the characters in this book won't have their enlighting moments. Celia would never asked for help, Damion and Avery won't be friends again, and Booker might end up depressed, forever blaming himself for Addison's suicide.

Addison was an inspiration to Celia. If Celia hadn't met Addison, her life wouldn't have turned out as well as it did. Sometimes we need people who motivate us to bring out the good in us.

I concur! What strikes me most is the likelihood that Celia would never have reported her mother's abuse to the authorities. In general, many of the characters might not have found the courage to confront their own troubles. Addison's death would likely leave a sense of unresolved feelings, especially for Booker.

The day would have been much darker if Adisson hadn't been there. One of the most important things Adisson did was to give Celia the courage to report her living situation to the authorities. If Adisson wasn't around, Celia might have had to suffer something even worse to speak up, or maybe she would never have had the opportunity to do so.

I think that would have been disastrous. Booker would have blamed himself for her death and would have been withdrawn. That would have been the major blow. Other things would have had a way of happening sooner or later.

Adison's return is essential in completing the events for the characters. Every event affected the other. This day at school was like magic in the characters' lives. I felt that the author was able to show how the smallest initiatives can affect a person's life.

That’s an interesting concept. Really the story can change dramatically when any of the main characters are removed from the story.

Julie Basil wrote: 02 Aug 2023, 06:39 The story would have been much different if Addison wasn’t there on December 7th, and it also would have been much different if any of the other main characters weren’t there or had missed school that day. If Celia hadn’t been able to sneak out of the house to make it to school before her mom woke up, she wouldn’t have had an impact on Addison or Booker. Having the chance to help Celia helped to draw Addison out of herself and make her realize that her presence matters.

I agree with you totally. Her presence was very crucial and a lot wouldn't have been the same if she were not there. Nice construct of points.

Addison surviving her suicide attempt was a blessing to her and the other four students she helped. I couldn't bear to see her mother's reaction if she had died from the suicide attempt

The narrative's course would have taken a distinct turn had Addison been absent on December 7th, just as it would have been altered significantly if any of the primary characters had skipped school that day. Celia's ability to sneak out of her home before her mother's awakening was crucial; without it, her influence on Addison and Booker wouldn't have occurred. Assisting Celia became the catalyst for drawing Addison out of her shell, making her understand the significance of her presence.

I believe the world won't know more about spreading one's stories that will make an impact in someone else's life if Addison decided to shut herself from her classmates and friends.
