Re: Patient advocacy

Patient advocacy addresses the important but difficult skills of advocating for yourself and advocating for appropriate care. This represents a shift from the doctor-patient dynamic to a more collaborative dynamic in which patients and their families become important members of the nutrition care team. These thoughts are especially helpful for people facing health challenges while dealing with chronic illnesses.
Life is a play where we are the actors and the audience, We laugh and cry, love and hate, create and destroy,
We seek to know ourselves and others, to belong and to be free, We accept what we can and change what we must.

Patients should strive to take an active role in their care whenever they can. Staying informed and conducting thorough research is crucial. Regrettably, certain elderly or terminally ill patients may face limitations in this regard. In such cases, children often rely on their parents to advocate for them, given their limited understanding of the situation.

Although you may not understand much of the medical lingo as a patient, being aware of what is being done and why could make you feel more at peace. Your constant queries may upset medical professionals, but you need to know the answers as a patient and a person. The way Mark and Mary Ellen fought for their son was excellent.

I agree that every medical procedure taken that patients and their family must be involved. As a medical practutioner, that is the norm on how we should do things. Unfortunately, I won't denied that there are those who would be secretive and hide a few things from the patients and their family. A simple explanation would go along way in term of patient-doctor relationship.

Due to recent flaws where medical practitioners have left passion for their patients' health to a business of becoming wealthy, it becomes imperative that patient should look out for themselves and advocate for their rights. They should take responsibility for their lives on the kind of treatment they deserve.

I definitely agree with the themes of patient advocacy in the book. Sometimes the caretakers (parents, grandparents, kids) of the patient might know if something is wrong with the patient which the medical practitioners may not pay attention to. If the medical practitioners don't help or pay attention, the parents have to demand it. However, there are times when the caretakers are just too worried about the patient.

It is good to always be aware of the treatment and pathologies. If something is unknown, it must be investigated.

It is well known that all doctors do not provide completely cordial attention to their patients, but we must always look for more options.

I loved the point about great doctors wanting their patients to ask questions. I think advocacy is so important in the treatment process and wish more doctors were okay with it.

I totally agree with you. Patient should also make a right choice of hospital or medical facilities to get treated

After the doctors, the patients need to be the next most educated people about their ailments. It helps to speed recovery as they would do the proper things.

In spite of patient advocacy, the protocol seems all hay-wire to suit the hospitals and insurance companies. To eliminate that discrepancy, the cost of any procedure, any medicine or tests should be made standard irrespective of with or without insurance. Why should any med or procedure cost different when done with and without insurance? It is a scam.

I think every patient should be encouraged to actively participate in their healthcare decisions. They should also keep organized records of medical information, including test results, prescriptions, and treatment plans. Patients shouldn’t hesitate to ask healthcare professionals questions about the diagnosis, treatment plan, and potential alternatives because that is their rights.

This is an interesting topic. Doctors should always aid their patients to help them understand what is goin on in their bodies. It is important.

I think transparency from the medical professionals is very important. Patients and their relatives should be informed about the illness and it's treatment completely. People trust doctors blindly and they should feel free to ask any questions or doubts about the treatment.
