STREAMLINING THE HANDLING OF BANS

Post by Mutai Marshal »

I was recently banned from the review team for allegedly wrong PRQs. The issues raised are clearly subjective in the way the words were used (for instance 'sh*t and whore'). One was handled by Scott after months and the payment completed. However, when I contacted the Admins and Reviewer Representatives privately, only the admins responded. They redirected me to the the reps who are in charge of the issue as that's their line of duty.
I also wrote an email to ReviewTeamSupport@onlinebookclub.org, but I'm yet to receive a response. Most of them are online but they haven't reacted; it could mean they're dealing with the backlog of issues.

The confirmation of purchase for books is expeditiously done nowadays. Can the same effort be accorded to bans? Clearly, not all bans are legitimate. Having a team to look into this issue will not only facilitate timely response but show that the Club continues to value the input of its committed and diligent reviewers.

It's my hope that this will be addressed. Thank you in advance

Hi,

Just to be clear about the situation: As I understand it, you've submitted "the author made a mistake" for the three disputes, and remain banned while someone checks your responses.

Were you able to submit the text you shared with me, i.e., your explanations as to why the words are not profane as used in the books?

Thanks,

Alice

Hi,

I submitted "the author made a mistake" for the disputes on 20th June for 2 books while the other was on 24th March 2021. The ban was initiated on 5th July 2023.

I sent the text containing the explanation to [email address] on 6th July 2023 but no action has been taken until now.

Thank you

1. When you submitted "the author made a mistake", did you get an opportunity to provide your evidence, or was it only possible to make that selection?
2. Were you instructed to write to that email address, or were there other instructions in the ban notice? If so, what?

1. It was only possible to make the selection: "the author made a mistake/I made a mistake."

2. As for the email, a reviewer proposed I can try the option. Part of the instruction on the ban notice reads 'to appeal your ban you must resolve the inaccurate PRQs using the following links.' However, the links are a dead end; I can only access the PRQ page.

1. I can see it would be an idea to change that to give reviewers the opportunity to provide further information.
2. What do you see on the PRQ page when you access it? (I think this might be a bug, but please provide more information.)

If you sent the email only on 6 July, you may yet get a response.

1. Yes. This is a great idea as honest reviewers wouldn't have to go through the hassle.
2. The page shows the phrases listed by some reviewers and the information about the religious content.

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out. I am sorry for the delayed response. Was this issue resolved? If not, can you please share a screenshot of the PRQ disputes? You can also email us the screenshots at ReviewTeamSupport@OnlineBookClub.org. Generally, after three weeks from your response to the PRQ dispute, if a moderator has still not checked it, you will see an option to email with a reference number. Do you see that option? Let me know so I can guide you accordingly.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Have a great day.

Thank you.
