Thanks to Scott and bookowlie for this information for very new reviewers. I'm still pretty new and was pretty overwhelmed when I started, but it does get easier when you get used to the process. OTelia35, good luck with your reviews!

It is noted in the guidelines page about updating the status after reading. In fact, there is also a deadline set for it. But I agree such a point can get buried in the page.

If there is any experienced member who would want to volunteer to re-write the guidelines page into a simpler text especially with new members in mind, I would happy to replace it.

I struggle to write easy and helpful instructions for two reasons. First, I don't use the review team as a reviewer. Second, I'm overly familiar with the software and process from a technical end which makes it difficult to imagine and relate to what might be unclear for others.

I just looked at the Posting the Completed Review section of the Guidelines and the instructions seem easy to understand. I don't remember having any problems when submitting my first review way back when. I wonder if newbies just become a little overwhelmed the first time around. Anyway, the steps I wrote above are just what I do...sort of like experienced drivers rather than driving the exact way for your road test.

I think your instructions are very clear and comprehensible. I think some people may skim over the guidelines page, so they miss out the fine points. As a new reviewer I never had any problem understanding the process.

gali and bookowli, I agree that Scott has done a good job writing the guidelines. That being said, I like the idea of re-doing them. I’ve seen a fair number of posts where new reviewers seem to be having trouble finding or understanding information. In my own experience, I spent quite a bit of time reading the guidelines and posts before I started doing reviews. I often remembered that certain information was there, but often had trouble finding it again. There are currently seven sections in the Review Team Guidelines, Policies, and Terms—maybe what needs to happen is to have fewer sections, just as a matter of reorganizing rather than rewriting. The various backgrounds and experiences of new reviewers probably do have something to do with the questions we’re asking, and yes—we can be overwhelmed! I appreciate Scott’s suggestion for a good solution, and I appreciate the help you two have given me and others as we get our act together!
