Suggesting Middle Grade as a genre

I've been adding books to my shelves, and I'd like to suggest having a Middle Grade genre to distinguish these books from Children's Books and YA (Young Adult). It's a very common category among libraries, publishers, and bookstores and I'm sure some users might want to narrow a search using it.

Unfortunately, Scott doesn't want to add anymore genres to the list.

If he can ever open use of hashtags again, it would enable members to add that as a sortable subgenre.

@Gravy Kind of along those lines, I would really like to be able to filter out Christian genre books. I am not Christian, so I can't fairly review books that heavily revolve around religion. A hefty portion of the books available to review fall under this category. There have been more than a few times where, despite my due diligence, I unknowingly end up with a book pushed out by a Christian publisher. Christian "romance" novels generally elicit a lot of disappointment and eye rolling from my camp. I also have a hard time tolerating the rampant sexism and homophobia that tend to be present in these books and my ratings reflect that.

At least some hashtags might be used to specify that they're targeted to Middle Grade, or that they're Christian novels, or whatever. I know that you need to have moderator privileges to add hashtags, is there a way to suggest them to give a better idea of the book's contents?

Yeah. Sometimes I wonder if they don't disclose it as a type of bait and switch, or if they're just so closed minded as to not believe others might not want to read it.


I'm not entirely sure how Scott intends to deal with subgenres and other classifications. The hashtags worked until some members completely ignored the guidelines for adding them (isn't that always the way?).
I believe he expects (or at least expected) to reopen the hashtags. I'm just not sure when that would happen.

I do know he's adamant about not adding any more genre options. Didn't even want to add one for Queer fiction.
