Possibly getting an App [resolved]

Post by Mbarnes »

So far I have really enjoyed being a part of this site and getting to see all of the ins and outs of it. My only thing is that I dont like having to continuosly go to the internet to get to the website. I think it would be extremly cool to have an app that can be downloaded accross the board on different devices. I know that the most popular in my opinion are android, Iphones, and kindles. I personally own a kindle and I believe that having an app would make it more appealing to get into the sight and get things done.

I totally agree! Sometimes I just feel like browsing through, but don't want to pull out my laptop. It would be really nice to have an app!

Being brand new here, no joke, I've been here approximately 12 minutes! I'm reading a few posts and getting a little familiar with what is allowed/not allowed etc. I agree on the website coming through here to make my Kindle life easier! :D

Once upon a time, long long ago, there was a mobile version of the site, but people complained that it was too hard to navigate so it got scrapped. Personally, I kind of liked it. But I know that Scott sent out a call looking for someone to design the app. It's just a matter of getting it done.

I have an interview this Sunday with a programmer who I may hire to help with the planned app and other things of that nature.

That is exciting! I think the overall usability could definitely be more streamlined and visually pleasing! :) So many great resources these days for web design. Also, the linking of books to search and add to shelves could be improved. Good Reads may be a competition, they have a great setup and app to scan books and add to your shelves. This site definitely has the community discussions and reviews beat, just a simplification in design could make it amazing!

I have created a Kickstarter campaign to make an OnlineBookClub.org mobile app.

You will not be charged unless we reach our goal.

The great thing about Kickstarter is it costs you absolutely nothing to pledge. The project only gets funded if it reaches its goal. So enough other people also have to think the project is a good idea for your pledge to come into play. This protects you from donating to a failing cause.

So please go to the Kickstarter and pledge now.

Thank you!

Even though I am new, I would love to see an app for this site. I use GoodReads as well and they have an app that makes life easy. I do travel a lot and doing my reading on the run is what I do. I hope this becomes something tangible!

An app is a great idea, most of the time I don't have my computer, accessing via an app and reading books on my Android would surely be useful to me

After reading through this topic, I see that the kickstarter campaign was not very successful - are there any updates for attempts and progress RE: developing a mobile app for this site?

Having an app would is such a great idea. I saw the Kickstarter failed. Does that mean the idea has been completely put aside?
