Setting goals without working towards them is the same as giving yourself false hope. Denial comes in when you don't work towards your goal.

Your observation resonates with many dreamers who, at times, find themselves in a constant state of being both dreamers and procrastinators. While dreaming comes naturally, transforming those dreams into reality poses significant challenges. The transition from imagination to concrete action can indeed make the journey more challenging.

When I saw the question what came to mind was the situation of grieving, in the reality it is gone but you still hope that they'll come back some how, that in fact is denial.

It's a resilient force that encourages continual effort, recognizing that even in the face of potential heartbreak, the pursuit itself brings meaning and growth.

Hope is an active response. I like how the author put it in the book. It wis correct and does not give a wrong impression.

Being in the darkness and depths of despair is a terrible place. Is it possible to apply the hope factor and see if things might improve? I think it depends on the factors at play and, of course, the mental stability of the subject. It's all well and good to preach 'hope' from the pulpit, but, for some, it's not the answer.

It reflects the idea that merely hoping or believing in something isn't enough; one must also take concrete steps towards realizing those hopes or beliefs. This perspective encourages proactivity and responsibility, emphasizing that our efforts and actions are crucial in bringing about the results we desire or believe in. It's a reminder that while hope and faith can guide and sustain us, the fulfillment of our aspirations ultimately depends on our willingness to work towards them.

I believe that it is a part of the human experience to be in such a situation. We all experience moments in our life where we hope for something but are actually in denial. In this sense, "Fireproof Happiness" by Dr. Ross could be a very helpful book for readers who often find themselves under the spells of wishful thinking and unrealistic optimism. With this book they can establish a more solid foundation to place their hopes and dreams.

I think this there is a thin line between wishing and hoping. I've wished for several things without actually doing anything. They are simply wishes. I believe hope comes with other things like actually working towards the wish.

Hope is very much different from wishing. Wishing to me is still having doubts about things but just thinking maybe it will work out for good, while hope is purely letting your mind rest because you know for sure that things will work out.

Wishing can sometimes lead to a sense of resignation or helplessness if things don't go as desired, as there is no personal agency involved in the outcome. In contrast, hope fosters resilience and adaptability, allowing individuals to adjust their strategies and find alternative paths towards their objectives.

Absolutely, I can relate to that feeling. There have been times when I've hoped for things to get better without taking any real action to change the situation. It's easy to fall into the trap of passive wishing when faced with challenges. Recognizing the difference between true hope and passive wishing is crucial. It's important to shift from being passive to taking proactive steps to address the issues we face. It's a valuable insight from Dr. Randy Ross's book!

Denial would help you cut your chances and make you narrow down your choice down to what you want. I think I would go for denial if I'm ever in that kind of situation.

Hope is the act of doing everything required of you and then expecting and wishing for the fruits of your labor with all of your mind, soul, and body. Denial is having proof that, despite your wishes, it did not bear fruit; instead of accepting the results and trying a different approach, you reject the results and continue to wait for a magical change.
