True happiness is not merely the absence of struggle. Instead, it’s about embracing hope even in the face of adversity. When we choose hope, we become happier, healthier, and more productive.
Life is a play where we are the actors and the audience, We laugh and cry, love and hate, create and destroy,
We seek to know ourselves and others, to belong and to be free, We accept what we can and change what we must.

Hope gives you a reason to go on. When things are going the wrong way, the hope that it won't last helps you maintain your happiness for the time being.

The link between hope and happiness is profound and deeply intertwined. Hope is the belief that things can get better, that there is a brighter future ahead. It provides us with the motivation to persevere through difficult times and the resilience to overcome challenges. When we have hope, we are more likely to experience positive emotions such as optimism, gratitude, and joy.

Happiness, on the other hand, is often the result of having hope. When we believe that good things are possible, we are more likely to feel happy and content in the present moment. Hope gives us a sense of purpose and direction, which are essential components of a fulfilling life.

In essence, hope and happiness are two sides of the same coin. They both stem from a positive outlook on life and a belief in the possibility of a better future. Cultivating hope can lead to greater happiness, as it allows us to see the beauty and potential in the world around us, even in the face of adversity.

Kigen Valarie wrote: 13 Dec 2023, 04:27 Maybe my explanation may be a bit different from that of Dr. Randy. He said that hope is a strategy. This for me means that having hope means that you put in all the desired effort and it's not just wishful thinking but something you can be at least certain will turn out well (even when it won't sometimes). This brings a sense of fulfillment. For example, now that you put in the required effort, say in an assignment, you are not stressed about it and you are awaiting a positive outcome. For me, that's happiness as a result of hope.

I think I agree to this the author already explained in the book

According to me, hope is where it all starts. If you don't have hope, it can lead to a depressing, unmotivated and despondent state of mind. Hope leads to goals, which leads to efforts, which leads to progress and ultimately achieving the goals. When that happens, happiness comes in. Goals give meaning to life. At the same time though, contentment is also important. Happiness is a state of mind...
Constant and obsessive goal seeking and not enjoying the summit, would lead to burnout, which one should be wary of.

The author has done a wonderful job of encouraging us to stay hopeful and enjoy the ride. The author claims that hope is not always associated with enjoyment at arriving at a destination, but rather with overcoming each challenge encountered on the way there. I cherished the idea of living in the moment rather than solely depending on the destination of a journey.

Absolutely, hope is often the driving force behind our happiness. When we believe that things can improve in the future, it gives us the motivation to pursue our goals, whether it's going to work, school, or engaging in other activities. Hope provides us with a sense of purpose and optimism, allowing us to find joy even in challenging circumstances. The anticipation of a brighter future and the potential for positive outcomes can indeed bring us immense happiness and fulfillment.

I think there's a strong connection between hope and happiness. When we have hope, we feel optimistic about the future and motivated to take action to make our dreams a reality. This positive outlook can help us to find joy and fulfillment in our lives, even in the midst of challenges. In a way, hope can be a source of happiness.
