Fantasy/Paranormal Book Discusstion (Mar '24)

Post by Heidi M Simone »

Happy March everyone! We will be discussing books that fall under the fantasy/paranormal genre. This is one of my favorite genres, and I already have a book in mind to begin this month!

Fantasy: This genre is when stories are set in the real world and the fantasy aspects are just that - fantasy. Those magical creatures aren't meant to be real and aren't part of every day life for everyone. It questions what would happen if the supernatural were real (i.e. what if werewolves were real?).

Paranormal: This genre is when stories have magical creatures as part of their "normal" every day experiences. There is no question if vampires are real, they just are.

Here are some guiding discussion questions:
  • What book did you read or are currently reading?
  • Would you say you read a fantasy book or a paranormal one? What elements told you the book fell under one genre vs. the other?
  • Share any other genres that are woven within the story.
  • Describe your overall impressions of this book.
  • Give your rating and recommendation of the book you read.
Can't wait to hear what everyone is reading! :D
