Yaxus believed that there are no winners in a war. A theme that goes against the grain of this idea is that with limited resources and starvation affecting the population, war is necessary to gain resources and feed the population. Xaxus and the majority of demons believed this to be the case. For Xaxus, the winners of the war get the resources and full bellies.
