My overall rating of this book is 4 out of 5 stars, mainly for the historical inaccuracies and the rushed ending, which got me confused and made me question if that’s all about the book; the ending of the book is highly unsatisfactory to me that’s why I won’t give it a 5 star.

I found the story to be captivating, well-crafted and thought-provoking. I found most of the characters especially Vanessa to be well-developed. I enjoyed how Sister Rosalie brought the history of South Carolina to life with her sometimes humorous take on events. Though it is a romance novel, many themes such as loyalty, friendship, family, gender inequality, racism, prejudice, martial abuse, and crime, were found therein. I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging book and awarded it 5 out of 5.
